The role of the bio-medical engineer is varied. It can range from the hospital engineer, who specifies, commissions and maintains complex medical equipment to professionals working alongside the medical specialist. As the lines between the engineer and the medical practitioner become more blurred, it can involve design and manufacture of joint replacement components, heart pacemakers, stents and implants.
